Mentoring Monday is a program run by the American City Business Journals network that provides speed coaching and networking for more than 7,000 professional women in 40 cities. Each event is tied to one of their publications, and some offer additional features such as a guest speaker or panel discussion.

Mentor Monday - Combined (002)This year’s event was held on February 25th, with BrightView represented both by Mentors and Mentees in four separate markets.  Caroline Weilert (Los Angeles) and Kate Douglas Kestyn (Denver) participated as Mentors; Lisa Schanberger (Philadelphia), Kayla Seil (Tampa), Marcia Pryor (Denver), Laura Brown (Los Angeles), Danita Leese (Los Angeles), Nicole Sandoval (Los Angeles), Celine Gabay, (Los Angeles) were mentees.

Lisa commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed the mentoring event. It was inspiring to meet so many successful women, across a wide array of industries and roles. A common theme among the conversations I had was how to successfully navigate challenges that at times can seem unique to women. The atmosphere was so friendly and supportive that I felt comfortable asking advice on specific challenges I have encountered in my career and I left with a handful of meaningful and actionable tips. Outside of the mentors, I was able to make some potential business connections through conversations with the other attendees. All in all, it was a fun way to spend a morning, among women who believe in supporting women. I will definitely try to attend again next year!”

Marcia shared Lisa’s sentiments. “The energy was great. It is extremely rare for me to be in a room of all women. A lightbulb moment was when a few of us more seasoned professionals realized that our mentors were all men and many of the young women we were meeting had all women mentors. Times are changing. All of the mentors I met were also on boards or committees outside of their work and many worked with non-profits as well. Basically they were all about giving back!”

Did we miss you? We’d love to hear about your experience. And if you’re interested in participating next year, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of our team members who were there.
